Sodium hydroxide

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), commonly known as caustic soda, caustic soda, or caustic soda, is a strongly alkaline and corrosive inorganic compound that is widely used in a number of industrial applications.

  • Description
  • Pure product is colorless transparent liquid. Relative density 1.328-1.349, melting point 318.4℃, boiling point 1390℃. Pure liquid caustic soda is called liquid soda, colorless transparent liquid. Industrial products contain impurities, mainly sodium chloride and sodium carbonate, and sometimes a small amount of iron oxide. When dissolved into concentrated liquid caustic soda, most of the impurities will float to the surface of the liquid, which can be separated and removed.

    ◣ Application

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), commonly known as caustic soda, caustic soda, or caustic soda, is a strongly alkaline and corrosive inorganic compound that is widely used in a number of industrial applications. The following is a summary of its main uses.
    1. Chemical raw material
Sodium hydroxide is a basic chemical raw material, widely used in the production of borax, sodium cyanide, formic acid, oxalic acid, phenol and other chemicals. It is also used in the manufacture of various sodium salts, soap, pulp, and finishing cotton fabrics, silk, viscose fibers and so on.

    2. Paper-making industry
In the papermaking process, sodium hydroxide is used to dissolve and separate the non-cellulose components in wood or grass plants, so as to obtain pulp with cellulose as the main component, which is an important auxiliary in the manufacture of high-quality paper.

    3. Textile printing and dyeing
Sodium hydroxide is used in textile printing and dyeing industry as desizing agent, cooking agent and mercerizing agent for cotton fabrics, which helps to improve the texture and appearance of fabrics.

    4. Petroleum industry
Sodium hydroxide is used to refine petroleum products and is useful in oilfield drilling mud. It is also used in the treatment of bauxite to extract alumina, an important raw material for the production of aluminum.

    5. Food processing
In the food industry, sodium hydroxide is used as an acid neutralizer to regulate the pH of food and enhance its taste and stability. It is also used for peeling fruits such as citrus and peaches, and as a detergent for containers such as empty bottles and cans.

    6. Water treatment
Sodium hydroxide is widely used in water treatment to reduce the hardness of water through a neutralization reaction. In the industrial field, it is a regenerating agent for the regeneration of ion exchange resins.

    7. Metallurgical industry
Sodium hydroxide is used in the treatment of bauxite to extract alumina, which is an important raw material for the production of aluminum. It is also used for surface treatment of metallic zinc and metallic copper.

    8. Pharmaceutical and medical devices
Sodium hydroxide is used in the manufacture of certain medicines and intermediates, as well as for cleaning and sterilizing medical devices.

    9. Cosmetics
In cosmetics creams, sodium hydroxide and stearic acid and other saponification emulsifier, used in the manufacture of snow cream, shampoo and so on.
